SYNOPSIS
The award-winning documentary “Wildwood Days” will touch the
hearts And spark the memories of anyone who had a special summer
place.
Wildwood, New Jersey welcomes you to a world of 50’s and 60’s
motels with names like the Satellite, the Astronaut, the Bonanza and
the Kona Kai – whatever was new or exotic at the time. It’s also
the home of Baby Parades, Marble tournaments, plastic palm trees, and
the country’s biggest Boardwalk, with more rides than Disneyland.
Called one of the birthplaces of rock ‘n roll, it’s where a
teenage Chubby Checker twisted, Bill Haley and His Comets rocked
around the clock for the first time, and Dick Clark hosted dances at
the magical Starlight Ballroom. Bobby Rydell immortalized it in song,
and a young Bruce Willis won disco dance contests.
Wildwood also has an incredibly loyal following. Generations of
families return every year, like the swallows to Capistrano, and fight
over whether Sam’s or Mack’s has the best Boardwalk pizza. But a
wrecking ball looms overhead, threatening the summer dreams of decades
of visitors.
